Want to enjoy meat-filled tacos, tostadas or taco salads with fewer calories and less saturated fat? Choose a lean meat like lean ground turkey or lean ground beef, and then add minced Honeysuckle Red onions. The onions add great flavor and moisture to a taco blend.
Makes 5 cups
16 ounces lean ground turkey or beef
8 ounces (2 cups, or 1 large) Honeysuckle Red Onion, minced
1-15 ounce can diced tomatoes (do not drain)
2 packets reduced sodium taco seasoning mix
- Brown the ground turkey in a large non-stick skillet over medium high heat. When the turkey is fully cooked and most of the excess moisture has cooked off, add the minced onions, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook until the onions are soft, about 10 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes and taco seasoning mix. Stir, reduce heat to low, and cook for 5 minutes longer.
- Serve with your favorite tostadas, taco shells, tortillas, your favorite toppings, and some Honeysuckle Red Pico de Gallo for great color and flavor!
